Day 15 – What is the single most important lesson you have ever had?
This is another tough subject from Elizabeth. Mine is not so much a lesson, it is more advice. Its something my Grandad used to say to me.
“Don’t worry about other people. They are not worried about you.”
Harsh, but true.
When I was a small kid I was very shy and a lot of it stemmed from self consciousness. He used to say this all the time to help me out of my shell. I used to be embarrassed by Grandads swearing in public and his don’t give a monkeys attitude. Grandad was just being himself.
He was right, no one was taking any notice. People will do their best to avoid eye contact, will mind their own business and will never remember you.
The lesson he taught me gave me the courage to be myself. It doesn’t matter what people think of you. Don’t worry about the strangers, just focus on your family and friends. They are the ones that matter.
